In Vivo Flexibility Characteristics of Cervical Spine in Young Healthy Subjects during Sagittal and Coronal Neck Movements
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION An unstable spine is clinically defined as the state of excessive spinal motion beyond the normal physiological limits. Muscles play an important role to provide the spinal movement and to maintain the spinal stability by increasing the bending stiffness at the same time. The issues of spinal stability controlled by the active muscular system are complicated since the numbers of muscles surrounding the spinal segments are larger than the degrees of freedom of the musculoskeletal system. Flexibility testing of in vitro studies has shown the feasibility to investigate the effects of muscle recruitments on the mechanical stability of the spine [1]. However, the “load-displacement” property of the spine would not reveal the active roles of the muscles in controlling the spinal stability under different environments. The purpose of this study is to estimate the in vivo flexibility characteristics of the human cervical spine to quantify the spinal stability during neck movements.

Altered Co-contraction of Cervical Muscles in Young Adults with Chronic Neck Pain during Voluntary Neck Motions
[Purpose] Muscle co-contraction is important in stabilizing the spine. The aim of this study was to compare cervical muscle co-contraction in adults with and without chronic neck pain during voluntary movements. [Subjects and Methods] Surface electromyography of three paired cervical muscles was measured in fifteen young healthy subjects and fifteen patients with chronic neck pain. The subjects...
متن کاملبررسی حس وضعیت گردن در افراد مبتلا به جلوآمدگی سر و مقایسه آن با افراد سالم
Objective: One of the most common faulty posture of cervical spine is forward head posture (FHP). According to biomechanical changes in the muscles and ligaments of the neck which are rich source of mechanoreceptors, proprioception possibly impaired in forward head posture. Assessment of neck repositioning angles can be an indicator to assess proprioception of this region .The aim of this study...
متن کاملThe Relationship of Forward Head Posture and Rounded Shoulders with Neck Pain in Iranian Office Workers
Background: Office workers spend a long period of time behind a computer during working hours. The relation between the posture of sitting during work with computer and neck pain is still debatable. Even though some researchers claim a significant difference in head posture between patients with neck pain and pain-free participants, the FHP (forward head posture) has not always been associate...
متن کاملRisk Factors Associated with Neck Pain in Male Military Personnel: A Case-Control Study
Background and Aim: Neck pain is a common disease and a relatively early disorder among military personnel. Neck pain causes disability, reduced quality of life, productivity, combat readiness of forces, and increased health care costs. The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk factors associated with neck pain in male military Personnel. Methods: This study was a case-control study...
متن کاملAn Exploratory Electromyography-Based Coactivation Index for the Cervical Spine
Objective Develop a coactivation index for the neck and test its effectiveness with complex dynamic head motions. Background Studies describing coactivation for the cervical spine are sparse in the literature. Of those in existence, they were either limited to a priori definitions of agonist/antagonist activity that limited the testing to sagittal and lateral planes or consisted of isometric ex...
